d3kOS Architecture

Understanding how d3kOS works is part of how it builds your confidence.

Because when you understand the system — not just how to push the buttons, but how the pieces connect — you’re in control. Not dependent on it. In control of it.

Here’s the architecture that makes that possible.

Signal K — the foundation

Signal K is the open-source marine data standard that everything sits on. Your engine RPM, GPS position, depth, heading, battery voltage — every data point coming off your boat’s NMEA 2000 network flows into Signal K.

Because it’s an open standard, every part of d3kOS reads from the same source. The helm dashboard. The voice assistant. The AI assistant. The mobile app. All of them see the same live data.

One source of truth. Every interface.

AvNav — offline navigation that never leaves you stranded

d3kOS integrates AvNav, an open-source chartplotter. Your charts live on the Pi. They work offline — at anchor in a remote bay, mid‑crossing, or anywhere without cell service. No subscription. No cloud dependency. Just charts that load instantly, every time.

Gemini AI — context-aware answers, not generic guesses

When you ask a question — by voice or by typing — d3kOS sends it to Google’s Gemini AI along with your boat’s current sensor data.

“Is my engine temperature high for these conditions?”

The AI isn’t guessing. It has context. It knows your RPM, your coolant temperature, your speed, your environment. It can give you a real answer — and teach you something about your boat in the process.

Every interaction becomes a learning moment.

Predictive maintenance — your silent onboard engineer

d3kOS watches your engine patterns over time. It builds a baseline: what normal RPM looks like, what normal temperature looks like under different loads, how your engine behaves when it’s healthy.

When values drift outside that baseline, it warns you early — before a small deviation becomes a real failure.

This runs continuously, every five minutes, every time you’re on the water. A long-term picture of your engine’s health, built automatically.

The mobile companion app — your boat, in your pocket

For T1 and above subscribers, the d3kOS mobile app runs at atmyboat.com/app/ on any phone. No app store. No download. Install it to your home screen.

Your phone connects directly to your Pi using peer‑to‑peer networking. No third-party servers in the middle.

If your boat is tied up and someone at home wants to check engine status — they can. If you’re at the dock and your partner wants to know if everything is okay — the answer is right there.

Where your data lives

T0 (free tier): Everything stays on your Pi. Nothing leaves unless you explicitly ask the AI a question.

T1 and above: Engine data, GPS position, and alerts sync to your account on AtMyBoat.com. That’s what enables remote viewing in the mobile app.

Why this matters

Most marine electronics are built so you push buttons and things happen. You don’t know why. When something breaks, you’re dependent on the manufacturer.

d3kOS is built so you understand what’s happening. The data is visible. The architecture is explainable. The AI teaches in plain language.

That’s not just a better product. That’s a different relationship with your boat.
