When I first looked at the Signal K data stream in d3kOS I was completely lost — PGN 127488, 127489, 128267. I had no idea what any of it meant.

I asked the AI: “Can you explain the most important NMEA 2000 PGNs for engine monitoring and navigation, in plain English?”

It explained: PGN 127488 = Engine RPM and boost. PGN 127489 = Coolant temp, oil pressure, hours, alternator voltage. PGN 128267 = Water depth. PGN 129025 = Position. PGN 129026 = COG and SOG.

Also explained why some show null — if your gateway does not transmit a PGN, Signal K gets nothing. Posting this for anyone new to NMEA 2000.
