The Wish List: Getting to Know Me (Without Giving It All Away)

Boating isn’t just about the big-ticket items — the engines, the electronics, the trailer. It’s also about the little things that make life on board smoother, safer, and, let’s be honest, more comfortable.

When I first started putting together my “wish list,” I thought it would be filled with flashy upgrades: new electronics, down-riggers, maybe even a radar dome. Instead, it turned into something far more practical — and far more revealing about who I am as a boater.

Here’s what made the list:

  • Patches for seats — because comfort matters, even if it’s patched together.
  • Water lights for night fishing — the dream of pulling in a catch under the stars.
  • Gelcoat fixer — boats age, and I wanted mine to keep looking sharp.
  • Portable battery-powered A/C — call it comfort, call it survival on hot nights.
  • Cleaning supplies — because grime doesn’t care about your boating dreams.
  • Ropes — you can never have too many.
  • Lock replacements — peace of mind is priceless.
  • Toilet brush & toilet paper — the unglamorous but essential side of boating.
  • Coffee maker filters — mornings on the water demand coffee.
  • Cup holder replacements — because somehow, these always break first.
  • Marine tool set — the difference between a quick fix and a ruined day.
  • Latch for windshield pass-through — small part, big convenience.

Why This List Matters

It’s not just about the gear. This list says something about me: I’m practical, I’m thrifty, and I like to be prepared. I don’t mind patching things up if it keeps the adventure going. I want comfort, but I also want capability. And I know that sometimes, the smallest items — like a working cup holder or a spare rope — make the biggest difference.

By sharing this list, I’m letting you get to know me without giving away too much. You don’t need my name or address to understand the kind of boater I am. You just need to see what I value enough to put on my wish list.
